Robert James, an entertainment reporter for a local Los Angeles television station, is handsome, smart and thoroughly modern in his thinking, considering his romantic and familial entanglements.

Robert gets upset with Neesee when he learns from Bobby that Neesee is dating a new man--her handsome dentist Marcus. Robert insists that he meet any man who's going to be involved in his son's life.

Tia resists Robert's attempts at being affectionate, and the two end up trying to resolve their dilemma at Dirk and Jonelle's wedding, which is presided over by their offbeat friend Turtle.

After discovering that Robert has started dating again, Tia immediately asks flirty fireman Rick (LAMMAN RUCKER) to join her on a double date with Dirk and Jonelle.

Robert and Tia worry that Bobby may have witnessed them having sex. To make matters worse, they fear that Bobby has drawn a picture of what he saw and may show it to his mother.
