Jewel Staite

Canadian actress Jewel Staite has been performing since she was six years old, working as a child model before being cast in several television movies. Staite had her first big break when she was cast as Amy Jacobs, a young kidnap victim with psychic abilities, on the hit sci-fi television show "The X-Files." In 1996, Staite mined similar territory playing Catalina, a native of one of Saturn's moons, on the kid's sc-fi show "Space Cases." Staite continued to work on children's television through the 1990s, on the junior-high sitcom "Flash Forward," and as Tiara Vanhorn on "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show." In 2000, Staite acted in over 20 episodes of the teen drama "Higher Ground," and at the same time played Gabriella Da Vinci in the mystery series "Da Vinci's Inquest." Staite's best-known roles include Kaylee Frye on the short-lived but critically accalimed "Firefly" from 2002, and Dr. Jennifer Keller on the sci-fi show "Stargate Atlantis," which ran from 2004 to 2009.
