The body of a woman who has been missing since 1985 is discovered in a wildlife preserve. The victim was shot through the heart. The detectives interview her daughter, who was 12 years old when the woman went missing. The daughter's abusive father is also dead, but the team believes he could have been responsible for the murder.

While dealing with issues in her personal life, Melinda has difficulty helping a troubled teenage ghost.

When a homeless woman goes missing from a shelter linked to a previous case, Jack suspects Rick Knowles (recurring guest star Tony Goldwyn - "The Last Samurai," "From the Earth to the Moon")--one of two identical twins--who manipulated his brother, Greg (also played by Goldwyn), into confessing to the murders of several other homeless women.
