And it wouldn't be a first rose ceremony without a surprise! Before the ceremony can even begin, an unexpected visitor from the past arrives and pulls the shocked Bachelorette aside, as the other men wonder if this man is new competition for JoJo's heart. At the end of the night, 20 men continue on in the hopes of winning JoJo's heart.

Twenty anxious men hope to get their love story with JoJo off to a good start. The first group date gives 10 lucky bachelors a chance to see sparks fly when they head to a firefighting training facility, where one of the guys might need saving himself. JoJo and Derek get to pick their own adventure, and they choose a romantic picnic by the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Six bachelors get a dream date to ESPN's popular show SportsNation, with hosts Max Kellerman and Marcellus Wiley. The hosts are sure they will be able to help JoJo find a perfect match, but Chad seems determined to "shock and awe" all the way up to the rose ceremony.

Just as the remaining 13 men are celebrating Chad’s departure after the dreaded two-on-one date, the bachelor that viewers love to hate makes a surprise return to the house for another combative confrontation. When the dust settles after the rose ceremony, two more men are sent home while the others prepare for their first international adventure to the exciting South American city of Punta Del Este, Uruguay. JoJo’s one-on-one date with one of the charming bachelors involves a yacht and pods of adorable seals, but the man must end up defending himself against unflattering gossip. JoJo is also the target of tabloid reports that she is on the show for the “wrong reasons” and must argue her case to the men, but will they believe her? Finally, there’s a heart-stopping one-on-one date – for more than one reason. However, JoJo interjects more drama into the week by cancelling the cocktail party.

JoJo joins the guys for a fun-filled day in the pool but realizes they are distracted by the recent drama involving one bachelor. After the rose ceremony, the 14 men who remain travel to the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania where a suitor gets a one-on-one date in the woods. Later, 11 bachelors visit Pittsburgh's Heinz Field and play football with Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward and Brett Keisel; and two guys go on a dreaded two-on-one date, but only one gets a rose.

One lucky bachelor enjoys a day of hot yoga with JoJo and a private performance from country star Charles Kelley. Also: one suitor creates chaos when he announces he doesn't want to go on the group date; 12 guys visit an L.A. theater where they are required to share stories about their sex lives in front of a live audience; and JoJo takes one bachelor swing dancing and to Lover's Lane.
