Sixteen year-old Avery Capshaw's (guest star Fiona Robert) parents report her kidnapped, and the SVU finds signs of a party turned violent. Her boyfriend, Manny Montero (Juan Castano), is a scholarship student from the Projects, and though his family swears he's on the right track, Amaro (Danny Pino) suspects he's involved with a dangerous gang. When Manny refuses to talk, the cops are forced to arrest him, but the violence only escalates. Meanwhile, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is sworn in as the SVU's new sergeant.

As Danny and Baez investigate the murders of three prominent community leaders who appear to be the casualties of hate crimes, Frank meets with a group who wants to make sure these incidents are not taken lightly.

When patients from the hospital’s prescription drug trial start suffering life threatening side effects, Nic fears that her sister Jessie may be in danger. As a result, she and Conrad work to convince Bell that these trials are not worth the risk. Meanwhile, Mina, Austin and Kit must set aside their competitive nature and work together on a patient whose health is quickly deteriorating and Devon uses Julian as the beta tester for a product he’s designed.
