Kate Lambert

A veteran of Chicago's comedy and improvisational theater scene, Kate Lambert and her comedy ensemble, the Katydids, created the popular web series "Teachers" (2012-), which became a critically praised sitcom for TV Land in 2016. Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, Lambert received her bachelor's degree in theater from Wake Forest University in North Carolina before heading to Chicago to delve into its celebrate comedy and improvisational circuit. There, she studied at and performed with the Second City Conservatory and iO Chicago. Lambert also joined forces with five other female improvisational actors and comics to form the Katydids, which drew its name from the fact that all of its members shared a first name derived from "Katherine." The ensemble wrote and performed in several comic shorts before creating "Teachers," a half-hour comedy web series about the lives of six female teachers at a Chicago-area school, including Lambert's hopeless (and hapless) romantic, Caroline Watson. The series drew critical praise and was screened on several high-profile comedy and culture sites, including The Onion and Funny or Die. The success of the web series prompted Lambert and the Katydids to pitch the concept as a network television show; with the help of actress Alison Brie, who served as one of its executive producers, "The Teachers" was picked up for broadcast on TV Land in 2016. In addition to her writing, producing and acting work on "Teachers," Lambert was a busy voice-over artist for television commercials and a contributor to numerous magazines and web sites, including The Huffington Post, MoveOn.org and Cosmopolitan.
