Claire arrives for her first day of work at Jays’ company and is worried that Jay doesn't have a real job for her. Cam, having lost his music teacher job due to budget cuts, is now substitute teaching at the high school. With the opportunity to become a full-time history teacher, Cam throws himself into the teaching with less-than-stellar results. But, Cam can coach football, so he’s hired. Mitch has to bring Lily to work with him after she injures herself. He calls on Haley to come to the office to help watch her, but Haley spends her day with Charlie, Mitchell’s boss. Luke and Manny have their first day of high school. They each brush off Phil and Gloria, respectively during their drop-off.

The Jeffersonian team investigates the murder of a food scientist whose remains were tossed in a meat grinder and mixed into cans of stew served in a school cafeteria. When the team uncovers the scientist’s newest – and highly lucrative – food invention, they begin to track the trail of jealous competitors in the multi-million dollar food industry. Meanwhile, Angela plans a post-wedding bachelorette party for Brennan and it gets crazier than intended.

Barry (Troy Gentile) and Erica (Hayley Orrantia) join Adam (Sean Giambrone) and his friends on a Goonies-inspired treasure hunt for some family jewels misplaced by Pops (George Segal).

To get his little brother his first kiss, Barry (Troy Gentile) hosts a “no parents allowed” birthday party in the basement for Adam (Sean Giambrone) – which sparks some surprisingly protective instincts in Erica (Hayley Orrantia).

Murray takes Erica's car privileges away, which leads her to retaliate by going halfsies with Barry on a shabby used black van that they end up living in much to the despair of Beverly. Meanwhile, Adam doesn't take kindly to being voted "nicest guy" in the school yearbook.
