The attention is focused off the football team for once and onto their biggest supporters -- the cheerleaders. As the cheer team prepares for the Championship Classic, word of Lyla (Minka Kelly) and Riggins' (Taylor Kitsch) affair causes Lyla to become the victim of brutal high school harassment. Matt (Zach Gilford) and Julie (Aimee Teegarden) also have problems of their own as Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) tries to keep the two of them apart in order to "protect" his daughter. Meanwhile, Jason (Scott Porter) adjusts to life back home after being released from rehab and Smash (Gaius Charles) falls for the preacher's daughter.

It's Valentine's Day and Rusty is scrambling to find a date. Casey finds out that Katherine is dateless so offers to set them up in hopes of being friends again. She and Cappie double date with them, and assume it went badly but Katherine actually seems smitten. At the KT party Rusty lets it slip that Casey offered access to her car if he would go with Katherine, even though he ended up having fun. Katherine is upset but that ends quickly when she's hit by a random cupid arrow from one of the pledges. Casey and Cappie decide to bet who can outdo each other in the gift department since the last Valentine's Day Cappie gave her a bottle of vodka which he got drunk from. Calvin and Grant realize it's not as romantic of a holiday when you're living with your significant other already. Grant tries to add some spark back into their relationship but Calvin's not sure he's ready to go down that path. Evan decides to take the extra step with Rebecca and invites her to the OX party. He also buys her a necklace to show how much he cares but it's all too much for Rebecca to handle since she still isn't sure she believes in love. She bolts and winds up running into Beaver at the KT party which leads to her getting an idea on how to really rebel against Evan and love.

Kappa Tau faces academic probation when one of their pledges mysteriously receives straight F‘s, the KT‘s suspect Omega Chi and Dale are behind it. Rebecca uses the investigation as her post Evan break up coping mechanism and discovers that Omega Chi is actually playing a trick on Dale. Evan takes revenge on Casey for his break up with Rebecca by attempting to make her look less than capable in her Law school studies. The two take opposing sides on a mock trail assignment. During the trial, Evan lets it slip that he still has feelings for Casey, but she takes it as a trick to get more information out of her about the trail, when in fact he was telling the truth. Casey wins the case. Part of the Omega Chi scam on Dale, he ends up performing solo on stage in just his underwear in front of the entire Greek system. Calvin and Rusty come to his rescue and join him on stage. Ashleigh continues her job search with the help of Cappie who has his eye on joining the CIA. She also continues her relationship with Casey‘s professor Simon, but realizes that he sees her as a trophy girlfriend situation and breaks up with him. Cappie attends an interview with the CIA, only to realize he may not be the type of candidate they are looking for.
