Rowdy Yates and Clay Forrester start a gold rush when they discover some nuggets judiciously placed by a canny old prospector. Clay Forrester and three other drovers follow an old prospector, Josea Brewer, back to his run-down shack on Lost Mountain after they see him overpay Wishbone in gold dust for a second-hand shovel. Trail boss Gil Favor, angered by their disappearance, sends ramrod Rowdy Yates out to hire replacements. But Rowdy, too, rides up Lost Mountain, which was mined, dry of its gold ten years before, and discovers Clay and the other drovers visiting with Brewer and his three daughters. After Clay pries information from one of the girls as to where gold might be found, Rowdy reluctantly joins Clay in his digging. They find some nuggets, which Josea had placed in a hole beforehand because he wants Lost Mountain to become alive and active again, and rush to town to stake their claim.
