Malcom Stewart

Veteran character actor Malcolm Stewart has amassed an impressive range of credits in movies, television, and theater--though he and his stony countenance are undoubtedly most familiar to science fiction fans from his appearances on literally dozens of genre TV series. Whether guesting on "The X-Files," "Battlestar Galactica," or the FOX hit "Fringe"--or in his most prominent former role, tirelessly nettlesome Principal Hooper on ABC Family's "Kyle XY"--Stewart has been a memorably forbidding presence in countless sci-fi and fantasy universes. Reliably authoritative in a host of film and TV roles as doctors, scientists, and intergalactic officers, Montreal native Stewart happens to be the son of an RAF pilot who famously crossed the Atlantic over a hundred times. Stewart made a striking impression, however, portraying a man in uniform whose ship doesn't get across the Atlantic even once--in the Emmy-winning mini-series "Titanic." On movie screens, Stewart was notably featured in three films that premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival: "Moon," "Helen," and the psychological chiller "Grace," in which he played unfortunate physician to the mother of a bloodthirsty infant. But he might be best remembered for his brief, sentimental role as the departed father of two orphans drawn into a savage jungle game-world in the Robin Williams fantasy blockbuster, "Jumanji."
