Paolo Bonacelli

Italian actor Paolo Bonacelli has over 100 acting credits to his name, going back to the early 1960s. Bonacelli is one of those ubiquitous actors that viewers may not know by name but certainly recognize. He is acknowledged most for his performance as the Duke de Blangis in director Pier Paolo Pasolini's controversial Italian film "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom." "Salò" is banned in many countries due to its depictions of extreme violence, sexual torture, perversion, and sadism. Bonacelli made distinguished appearances in Alan Parker's "Midnight Express" based on the novel by Billy Hayes, and Tinto Brass's "Caligula," an adult biographical film following the rise and fall of the Roman Emperor Caligula. He teamed up with countryman Roberto Benigni in both "Johnny Stecchino" and Jim Jarmusch's "Night on Earth." Bonacelli also appears in the J.J. Abrams film "Mission: Impossible III" with Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Ving Rhames, and plays Father Benedetto in Anton Corbijn's thriller "The American," with George Clooney.
