Former NYU basketball star Lou Gossett guest-stars as a parole officer turned private detective whose efforts to "use" his old friend Rockford in helping a client obtain a new basketball franchise takes a strange turn. Jim Rockford accepts an assignment from Mark Hayes, thinking he is still a parole officer. When Jim discovers Hayes has become a private investigator named Mark O'Brien and is using him as a decoy, he puts his own game plan into motion.
