After a security guard is murdered during the theft of a valuable emerald collection Barnaby and J.R. are hired to investigate. What they unearth is a madam, her low-life boyfriend, and a call girl carrying out her part in a scheme to rip-off unsuspecting men of their valuables.

A man whose son was killed in prison returns to get Dave Starsky for sending him there -- as "Starsky's Lady." George Prudholm returns (from earlier episodes) to avenge his son's death by killing people Starsky loves and, ultimately, Starsky himself. Prudholm sets the two up -- causing them to kill a nineteen year old robber. He rigs a shotgun to kill Hutch and, in his most bizarre attempt to date, shoots Starsky's girlfriend. The bullet lodges in her brain and, while released from the hospital, she is told that it is only a matter of time until the fragment moves. It does and she dies.
