The Loner
Private investigator Larry "Turk" McClendon, a former New York City policeman, is working as a bodyguard to Fred Blau when he returns to Los Angeles in an effort to talk crime boss Vince Albany into a deal. Blau's silence about a million-dollar swindle is offered in exchange for Albany's assurance that he will leave Blau and his family alone. Crowley and Pepper, also seeking Blau, witness two of Albany's men try to kidnap him. Turk kills one and breaks the ribs of the other. Blau escapes and goes into hiding. Crowley sets up a 24-hour surveillance on Turk who side-steps the police operation with ease. He is attracted to Pepper, and she to him, but he is working for Blau and refuses to help the police. Turk takes Blau's offer of a deal to Albany, but he refuses the offer and arranges for Blau to be murdered. Without a client, Turk goes after Albany by setting himself up as a target while police follow him. When the showdown comes in one of Albany's nightclubs, Turk is badly wounded.
