Meanwhile, Sue and Brick begin a texting marathon - and accidentally rack up some serious charges - on Aunt Edie's cell phone; and Frankie attempts to be completely attentive to the family's needs when she realizes that she's more considerate to outsiders than her own kin.

Dinner gets awkward for Jen and Matt when they find themselves alone without Greg and Colleen. Also, Lark accidentally locks out Greg and Jen from the house, prompting Greg to install a complicated home automation system; Heather and Tim try to sneak wine into an ice skating show to get out of paying at the venue; and John and Joan agree to an impromptu wedding after Colleen mentions that she’s an ordained minister.

Natalie becomes convinced a critic (Guest Star Dylan Baker) who panned her daughter Julie's theatrical performance was responsible for a murder at the same time as the show.
