Unax Ugalde

Few internationally active actors hail from Spain's Basque region; Unax Ungalde is one of the very few. He made his first appearance while quite young, in the TV show "Entre dos fuegos" (1998), produced by Basque television. The ambitious Ugalde didn't stay in his home region long, however. He moved to his country's capital of Madrid and landed several roles in productions based there. His work in such series as "A las once en casa" (1998) and "Periodistas" (2001) won him acclaim and notice in Spain, and he soon made his film debut in 2000's "Báilame el agua." The next few years saw Unglade making more frequent appearances on the big screen, most notably in "Héctor" (2004), for which he was nominated for a Goya, the country's equivalent of the Oscars. Shortly after this, Ungalde expanded his career to include international productions. He played the brother of Natalie Portman's character in the 2006 historical drama "Goya's Ghosts," and he enjoyed a high-profile role as the teenage version of the main character in the 2007 adaptation of the classic novel "Love in the Time of Cholera." That same year, Ungalde also had a small part (as "Black" Jake Martinez) in the true-story-inspired psychodrama "Savage Grace," starring Julianne Moore.
