Failed actor Henry Pollard returns to work at Party Down catering. He meets his fellow employees, led by his old coworker Ron, a clean-living team leader with big dreams.

As Penny (Casey Wilson) tries to delay breaking up with her boyfriend until after Valentine’s Day, Dave (Zachary Knighton) worries that his girlfriend is pulling the same trick on him. Brad (Damon Wayans, Jr.) struggles to complete his Valentine’s Day plans with Jane (Eliza Coupe) after a dentist appointment leaves him high on laughing gas, while Max (Adam Pally) reconnects with an old boyfriend.

Ben lands in 1979 Chicago as Jack Armstrong, a devoted security guard to talented pop singer Carly Farmer. During Carly's prep for a big concert, it quickly becomes clear her life is in danger and Ben must determine who is trying to kill her and why.

Ben leaps into Alexandra Tomkinson, a medical resident in a Seattle hospital. As victims from a train crash pour into the ER, Addison reveals a very complicated mission facing Ben during this leap. Ben must go up against hospital bosses to save lives and Alexandra's career.
