As he and Winona struggle to keep the evidence theft from being exposed, Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) is assigned to protect coal company VP Carol Johnson (guest star Rebecca Creskoff) as she tries to buy up land in Harlan County. But when they run up against the Bennett family’s plans to stop her, Raylan must put his own life on the line.
As federal agents look for the shooters who attacked him and Winona, Raylan’s (Timothy Olyphant) own search leads him to confront Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale). As Gary Hawkins’s (guest star William Ragsdale) shady dealings threaten to engulf Raylan, too, the battle between the Bennetts and the Crowders for control of crime in Harlan heats up.
As Boyd (Walton Goggins) and Arlo (Raymond J. Barry) negotiate a truce in their war with the Bennetts, Loretta McCready (Kaitlyn Dever) has taken her foster father’s gun and is en route back to Harlan. And as the feud between the Crowder and the Bennett crime families reaches a bloody climax, Loretta demands that Mags tell her the truth about her father’s death.
As his efforts to wrest control of crime in Harlan from the Crowder clan shift into high gear, mob boss Robert Quarles (guest star Neal McDonough) looks to bribe his way into power as he reaches back into Raylan’s (Timothy Olyphant) past for someone to stop his investigation.
Winona’s (Natalie Zea) estranged husband becomes a pawn in a deadly attempt to discredit Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) by framing him for murder and making him the target of an FBI investigation into corruption in the U.S. Marshals office. Meanwhile, Ellstin Limehouse (guest star Mykelti Williamson) becomes a sought after ally in the battle for control of Harlan County.
