2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Week

The World team hadn't won a SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game this decade. For most of Sunday afternoon at Petco Park, it appeared it wouldn't again this year yet the World team poured on seven runs in the ninth after not scoring that many in a game since 2007 to win it 11-3.

Sure, the heroics of the actual baseball players get all the attention over All-Star Weekend. But Monday's All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game is steeped in plenty of tradition of its own. The game's seen everything from Vlad's dingers to Kevin James', uh, "slides." Snoop Dogg once turned it into a hurdling competition. It's a big deal, is what we're saying.

In the finals, the fifth-seeded Giancarlo Stanton blasted 20 home runs -- giving him 61 total in three rounds -- as he topped defending champion Todd Frazier of the White Sox, 20-13. Not only did Stanton bring the crowd to its feet with his massive home runs, he also reset Statcast™ home run highs for distance (497 feet) and exit velocity (120.4 mph).

All-Star MVP Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez of the reigning World Series champions homered in a decisive three-run second, and the Astros' Will Harris extinguished a bases-loaded threat in the eighth to send David Ortiz out a winner in his final Midsummer Classic. The AL has defeated the NL in four straight games, earning home-field advantage in the Fall Classic.
