A Course Called Ireland

Bill Murray and golf writer Tom Coyne begin a journey around Ireland, with golf and a search for their Irish roots on the agenda. But travelling with Bill rarely goes to plan. A simple walk through Kinsale turns into an adventure of its own, as chance encounters repeatedly change the course of the day. Golf may have brought the pair to Ireland, but it quickly becomes clear that some of the most memorable parts of the journey happen nowhere near a golf course.

Irish film star Chris O'Dowd joins Bill and Tom, bringing plenty of enthusiasm to the golf course, if not quite the ability to match. Away from the fairways, the adventure turns to Ireland's gift for storytelling, humour and music. A traditional rambling house puts Bill firmly outside his comfort zone. But when the music starts in a packed Irish pub, staying on the sidelines proves difficult.

The journey moves into County Clare, where Bill and Tom's attempt to slip unnoticed into a local hurling match does not quite go to plan. An emotional reunion brings back memories of an unforgettable act of kindness, while a chance invitation in Ballybunion leads to a freezing Atlantic challenge. From the sidelines to the sea, they discover just how quickly strangers can be made to feel at home in Ireland.

As Bill's milestone birthday approaches, his brother Joel joins the adventure, bringing a little Murray family rivalry to the golf course. Comedian Joanne McNally also takes on her first ever round, despite never having swung a club before. Away from the fairways, a boat trip to the Cliffs of Moher brings more unexpected encounters, before friends and familiar faces gather to celebrate Bill's 75th birthday and look ahead to the next chapter.

After weeks of travelling, filming and constant attention, life on the road is beginning to take its toll on Bill. With brothers Joel and Johnny now along for the ride, family offers a rare escape from the demands of fame. The Murrays look back on losing their father when they were young, and how caddying and golf helped bind a family of nine siblings together. By the time they reach remote Cruit Island in Donegal, there is only one thing left to do: get competitive.

NFL star Jason Kelce joins Bill, Tom and the Murray brothers for a round of golf in County Down, where torrential rain puts everyone to the test. Jason then invites the group to Dublin for the first ever NFL game in Ireland, where the tables are unexpectedly turned. With the end in sight, one last journey north to the Giant's Causeway offers a chance to look back on an unforgettable adventure that began with golf but became about far more.
