Alaska's National Parks

Upon first entering Gates of the Arctic National Park, you will immediately notice the lack of roads and trails. That is because there are none. But, that is what makes this virtually untouched park so special, and worth keeping wild.

If you want to catch a glimpse of some of the features of the last Ice Age, visit Kenai National Park. Nearly forty glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield in Kenai, but in areas where the ice has either melted or simply does not cover.

One word might best describe Lake Clark National Park – solitude. Turquoise lakes and steaming volcanoes, rivers that bend to no end, and mountains lit by angel light, all beg to be explored. Lake Clark offers visitors a wilderness experience.

The land encompassing Katmai National Park was originally set aside to protect the volcanically devastated region surrounding Mount Katmai and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. Today, the park is still known to be an active volcanic landscape.

Wrangell-St. Elias is America’s largest national park, bigger than Yosemite and Yellowstone combined. The park stretches from the ocean shore all the way up to Mount St. Elias and is an adventure seeker’s dream.

Half a million caribou migrate through Kobuk Valley every year, crisscrossing their way over the park’s sand dunes. As the caribou come to, and cross, the ancient Kobuk River at Onion Portage.
