It's Autumn, and the start of what will prove to be the most punishing year of training for the students have ever faced. With places on the course more in-demand than Oxbridge, only the very best of over four thousand applicants have made it past the selection process, but now the lucky twenty-five must show they've got what it takes to go all the way.

In springtime, the trainees shadow qualified inspectors; Georgie rescues two cats and a swan in jeopardy; Natalie helps police stamp out an illegal blood sport.

The Trainee RSPCA Inspectors have reached the halfway point in their extraordinary year of teaching, testing and on-the-job assessment. If they make it to the end, the students will become fully-fledge Inspectors, but should they fail at any point, they'll be off the course.
