When Marnie develops a severe infection and is placed on a ventilator, her doctor recommends withdrawing care. Parents Nicci and Andrew fight the doctor's orders, but after Marnie's health shows no signs of recovery, Andrew starts to have doubts.

As Marnie's condition worsens, Andrew starts to believe that her suffering isn't justified by any hope of recovery. But Nicci refuses to give up and turns to a religious group to fundraise and help her mount a legal challenge against the hospital.
