Building Homes for Heroes

In September 2013, Air Force CaptainNathan Nelson was severely wounded in a rocket attack on his base in Afghanistan. He survived and returned home to his pregnant wife but faced the reality of a life withparalysis from the neck down. Andy Pujol and the folks at Building Homes for Heroes were the answer to Nelson and his wife'sprayers as the organizationembarked on building a new home catered to the needs of this disabled veteran.

Sergeant Kirstie Ennis was 17 when she joined the U.S. Marine Corps. She became one of the first women in her unit and soon realized her dream of being an aerial door gunner. In June 2012, her helicopter went down. Though she survived, her jaw shattered andshe received severe lacerations to her face. Doctors were also forced to amputate one of her legs. In December 2011, EOD technician Sergeant Aaron Hale was serving his second tour in Afghanistan when anIED blast took his eye sight. He returned home alive but, as a father of a young son, Hale's life was suddenly turned upside down.Andy Pujol and the team at Building Homes for Heroes stepped in to renovate a home for Haleto help him navigate his new reality. This home provided afoundation that would help him find both the love of his life and a new business opportunity.

In November 2011, U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Greg Caron was on patrol searching known Taliban compounds in the Southern Marjah area of Afghanistan whenhe lost both of his legs inan IEDexplosion. Upon returning home, life looked very different for him and his wife,Nina. Andy Pujol and the non-profit organization BuildingHomes for Heroes stepped in to build a new house in Caron'shometown to help restore his dignity and put his life back on track..

On September 11, 2001, Andy Pujol was one of the many first responders atthe World Trade Center. That day, hevowed todevote the rest of his life to helping our nation's wounded veterans. He and a small team beganby building one home for a critically injured serviceman. Over the past 15 years, Building Homes for Heroes has built and donated over 170 homes, forever changing the lives of our deserving veterans and their families.

The merry elves at Building Homes for Heroes travel to New Bern, North Carolina to gift a renovated home for wounded Veteran Specialist Andrew Jones and his family.  Since it's the most wonderful time of the year, you can expect them to deck the halls with plenty of Christmas cheer and surprises.
