Over the past 15 years, the people behind the non-profit organization Building Homes for Heroes have changed the lives of countless wounded and disabled veterans. To date,the organization hasbuilt and remodeled over 170 homes, each specifically tailored to the needs of each serviceman or woman. Lauren Simonetti visits the homes oftheseveterans around the country and shares their inspirational stories.

Captain Nathan Nelson

In September 2013, Air Force CaptainNathan Nelson was severely wounded in a rocket attack on his base in Afghanistan. He survived and returned home to his pregnant wife but faced the reality of a life withparalysis from the neck down. Sergeant Kirstie Ennis

Sergeant Kirstie Ennis was 17 when she joined the U.S. Marine Corps. She became one of the first women in her unit and soon realized her dream of being an aerial door gunner. In June 2012, her helicopter went down. Though she survived, her jaw shattered andshe received severe lacerations to her face. Doctors were also forced to amputate one of her legs.
