Two separated parents, Vicky and Stephen, are divided in their opinions over how to support their gender variant child, Max. From a young age, their now 11-year-old son has identified as a girl and presented signs of gender dysphoria.

Max's elder sister Lily encourages him to embrace his feminine identity, their mother Vicky fears the consequences and a furious Stephen is driven to a terrible revelation.

Vicky and Stephen do everything they can to support Max’s transition to becoming Maxine. But it’s clear that Stephen is unhappy things are moving so fast. With the couple divided, Vicky takes matters into her own hands and makes a reckless decision.

In Boston, Vicky watches as an optimistic Maxine is assessed for puberty blockers. Vicky is determined to support Maxine and forges Stephen's signature on the consent form.
