CRYPTID: Swamp Beast is based on recent events and dark legends in the Louisiana bayous. For centuries, there have been stories of a beast called the Rougaru, alternately described as a Bigfoot or werewolf-like creature. During the last several years, there has been an uptick in Rougaru sightings. Voodoo seems to be on the rise, as if traditional practitioners deep in the swamp are trying to ward something off. This series combines recent alleged sightings and events into a dramatized narrative that tells the story of what's supposedly been happening there. It's a region rife with history that can be folded in. There are ancient Indian burial grounds in the swamps, as well as above the ground cemeteries said to be the settings for strange events (like the appearance of weird lights that reportedly guide visitors deep in the swamps to become lost). The swamps have historically seen some macabre events, like cholera epidemics that killed entire families. This is all part of the fabric of this gothic, American folk-tale come to life.
