The Spanish flag school ship, Estrella Polar, with a crew of students sets sail on an academic mission to participate in a scientific experiment for CERN. At sea a mysterious storm develops after which the crew finds themselves totally isolated having lost all contact with everyone on Earth.

The crew of the Estrella Polar begins to adjust to their lives at sea unaware that their two-month voyage has been jeopardized by the mysterious storm that left the ship isolated from outside human contact.

With most of the crew of the Estrella Polar still unaware of their dire circumstances, the captain and first mate witness a commercial airliner crash into the sea near the ship. Isolated and desperate for information, they embark on a secret mission to recover the plane's black box recorder in the hope to find clues about the fate of the world.

Julia tries to convey some hope there must be land somewhere. They do an inventory and find a box from the Ministry not included in the doctor's list.

More than 40,000 exhausted and hungry birds are heading for the ship. De la Cuadra complains to the captain about Ainhoa's behavior. Palomares wants to create a chapel.

Hunger the character and patience of students and teachers, and protests soon emerge. Gamboa will take advantage of the opportunity to propose an election. According to Dr. Wilson, the oceans are adjusting after the cataclysm.
