Jang Bo-go (Choi Su-jong), was a cosmopolitan business magnate, whose sphere of activity was east Asia. Born in Cheong-Hae (Wan Do, of present day) into the lowest class of the society, Jang Bo-go lost his parents to ruthless pirates in his childhood. Jang Bo-go developed a talent in ship-making as well as sailing at an early age. After being sent as a slave to Tang dynasty, Jang Bo-go became a gladiator, then a guardian of traders. He continued to rise to the position of rear admiral in the Mu Ryeong Army, then to ambassador of Cheong-Hae-Jin, and finally to ‘Emperor of the Sea’. This is a story that depicts not only the time in the history, but also a fatal love. It shows how love can make ordinary people stronger and how love alters their fate.
