On the cusp of fame and fortune, a passionate yet fragile artist dubiously dies after being sponsored by Strahd, an enigmatic talent scout. Cassandra, a 30-year-old vibrant writer at a career crossroad, goes fishing with her BFF Ian Marlowe, an upcoming fashion designer who also has a crush on her. She offers a Tarot reading to help clarify their future.

On their first date, Cassandra and Hanz, a social activist, go to a gentrification protest where he reveals his true colours. Meanwhile Ian is having difficulty in L.A. launching his career. He returns to Montreal, only to find his feelings for Cassandra simmering deeper than the dark shadow she sees in his future.

Held back in L.A., Ian convinces Cassandra to expand her comfort zone and try to market her tarot-reading skills at his trendy fashion show in Montreal. She agrees and is ushered into a myriad of awkward encounters by Alex. A fish out of water, she escapes the fashionista crowd, including her stalker Winston, and tries to find sanctuary on the roof.
