La Mesías

Enric, a violent, rough-looking man, is completely in shock when he sees the new religious music band the whole country is making a laughingstock of on TV: Stella Maris. The memories from his childhood come rushing back, a traumatic childhood marked by neglect, drugs, violence, and a fatal accident that scarred him and his sister Irene for life. Now, he is determined to find the members of Stella Maris and save them from the same childhood he endured.

Irene, a serious and apparently controlling woman, lives a humdrum life until, one day, a graffiti appears on a wall close to her workplace that turns her world upside down, forcing her to recall the past that she has worked so hard to bury. A past in which her mother, Montserrat, after some very rough months, makes an act of faith and decides to leave everything behind and take her children to go live with Pep, a religious fanatic whom she has just met, in the middle of the forest

The 80s. Enric and Irene embark on a new life with their mother Montserrat, and her new boyfriend Pep in the middle of the forest. These are years marked by isolation, religious fanaticism, economical and emotional insecurity, and neglect from their mother who has daughter after daughter. Musical films become the only light in their dark existence.

Enric asks Irene to help him find the Stella Maris band. At first, she refuses outright, but she soon realizes that the girls are in danger and agrees to accompany her brother and help him search for them. This takes them back to the last time they travelled together as kids, when they went to perform at a mass festival of Catholic music. From there on out, things only got worse at home.

The need to find the members of Stella Maris grows more pressing as Christmas Eve approaches. Irene and Enric are afraid the girls will have to relive the most traumatic and cruel instant of their lives. Enric finally finds them, but Irene is not with him, and the combination of alcohol and desperation makes things turn out differently than he expected.

Irene arrives at the house where the girls live, terribly worried that she might be too late, and that something may have happened to Enric and the girls, but instead she encounters a strange calmness, it is almost macabre. With the whole family reunited, for the first and last time, they air all their dirty secrets, and old buried conflicts and reproaches quickly surface.
