New York lands in Hollywood, with celluloid dreams but no concrete connections. So she places an ad for an assistant and begins the interview process, in total New York fashion. Later, she works with her new assistant on getting a workout instructor to make her body a little more "Hollywood," an editor to create a reel of all her best career moments and a showcase to present her acting abilities, in an attempt to find the perfect manager.

Now that she's got an assistant, NY decides she needs to make another move if her career is going to start to take off – she needs a manager. NY organizes a showcase to display her talent and "range" to several multiple managers at the same time, however they will probably not be impressed with her past experience. Later NY will meet Chuck Binder, (manager to the stars – Jamie Lee Curtis, Sharon Stone, etc), and he will decide to take her on as his new client.

New York learns that you have to give a little to get a little when her new manager sets her up with a spec commercial for a Japanese energy drink. New York and her assistant do a little research into their idea of "Japanese culture". Finally, New York’s big chance arrives, but will she be able to deliver working with a non English speaking crew and a director that makes Hirohito look like a sweetheart.

It’s a brand new day for New York but Sister P is still an ominous presence hovering over her career. New York is awakened by a phone call from her manager, who makes New York aware that today she is doing back up vocals for an R&B group and lessons with a vocal coach, stressing the importance of a celebrity to have cross-over ability. New York’s assistant calls in sick, there’s a cab ride from hell to the lesson, and New York has to perform weird vocal exercises. Later, Sister P has an altercation with the recording artists which threatens to destroy New York’s cross-over career before it even has a chance to begin. New York is forced to make a decision on the role her mother is plays in her acting career.
