After ten years locked in a Chinese prison, María manages to escape and break free. From then on, she only has one goal: return to Madrid and get revenge on those who hurt her, her family. But first, she must retrace everything that got her into a prison on the other side of the world. Everything begun in the year 2001, when María was 26 and a promising lawyer. Then she discovered she was adopted and begun her search for answers. Where was she born? Why didn't her parents tell her anything? Who is her mother? The investigation she embarks in takes her to discover a crooked business buying and selling babies in El Remedio Convent in the 70s. Her perfect world begins to fall apart when she suspects that her parents also bought her. After these findings, she begins to believe that she doesn't know her family at all, especially when she sees her father assaulting the convent's doorman and believes he killed him.

China, 2013. María becomes a sex worker in order to get medicines for her friend Irina, but she can't save her life. What she manages to do is break out from prison and build a new life with the money that her friend left her. After returning to Spain, María is determined to get revenge from the people responsible for her captivity. Madrid, 2001. María backs out from her idea of suing her father, unaware that this decision will push her away from Juan at a time when he will need all her support. Meanwhile, Fernanda, admitted in the hospital, is recovering from alcohol poisoning, and Amparo shows up in Madrid with the intention of taking advantage of her new sister María. For that, Amparo gets into her house, her family and her life, following a detailed plan devised by Curro to pay his debts. But Amparo manages to get rid of Curro, so she can live her own way and, whatever it takes, María's life. María doesn't know that her enemy sleeps under her roof.

Her plan to destabilize her enemies has started. Madrid, 2001: Amparo goes back to her town after living the dream in Madrid, and the contrast with her real life is just unbearable. She doesn't like her life, nor seeing Fernanda drunk, but to make things worse, they owe six months of rent that Amparo doesn't know how to pay. Will she be tempted to become a sex worker, like her mother? Meanwhile, María and Juan find the case of Roberto and his biological son. María, after realizing that he's the guy that came with Bruno from New York and guessing the link with her family, begins to investigate them. Pablo gets images from Juan's hit-and-run that incriminate Roberto. What is happening? Who is Roberto? What links him to the Fuentes-Vergel family? María and Juan pact with Roberto, agreeing to not sue him if he gives them the convent documents that he has. Enrique is also after those documents. However, Roberto has planned a blow to the family that no one expects.

Meanwhile, Luisa wants to get María back and organizes a family party, inviting even her granny. But the party doesn't go as expected, as María charges against her adoptive family while she would do anything for Fernanda, even paying for a very expensive rehab clinic.
