The Muppet Show

When Scooter wants to perform a musical number with Muppy, the favorite pet of Muppet Theatre owner J. P. Grosse, Kermit grudgingly agrees, and even gives Muppy star billing and his own dressing room. But when Kermit balks at renaming the show The Muppy Show, the dog refuses to leave his dressing room, and Fozzie takes his place onstage for “Simon Smith & His Amazing Dancing Bear.” This episode features such showstoppers as Mahna Mahna and the Snowths performing “Mahna Mahna”; Statler and Waldorf offering commentary; Gonzo eating a tire to the music of “Flight of the Bumblebee”; and the Muppet Glee Club performing “Temptation.”

When Fozzie overhears Gonzo, Hilda, Kermit and Scooter talking about getting rid of “that bear,” he assumes the conversations are about him. Crushed, he decides to pack his bags and leave the theatre—till he discovers that the bear everyone’s belittling is actually Gonzo’s teddy bear. Plus, enjoy the skits, sketches and mayhem happening onstage as Kermit sings “Lydia the Tattooed Lady” with Lydia’s help; guest star Connie Stevens and the Mutations perform “Teenager in Love”; Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie pay a special visit, with Bert performing a dramatic version of “Some Enchanted Evening” with Connie Stevens; and much, much more!

Fozzie comes up with a new act – jokes on any subject – that he practices on everyone at the theatre, driving them nuts! The concept is simple: Toss him a subject and he’ll throw you a joke about it. But when he finally takes the stage, he faces the ultimate test of his skills when Statler and Waldorf shout out the word “amoeba.” Plus sketches, skits and Muppet-tastic madness, including guest star Joel Grey performing “Wilkommen” and showing Gonzo how to give ’em the old “Razzle Dazzle”; Rowlf the Dog appearing in Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Disappearing Clues; and much more!

Kermit is upset when Scooter brings a Mechanical Wind-Up TV Show Host to the theatre. It harasses Kermit, whispers “sweet nothings” to Miss Piggy, and looks so much like him that even Kermit can’t tell them apart. But, in the end, the mechanical frog is no match for the real one! Plus, get a front row seat to the show as Floyd Pepper and the Electric Mayhem go wild on “Sunny”; guest star Ruth Buzzi and Sweetums duet – and duel! – on “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”; Rowlf the dog performs “I Never Harmed an Onion”; and much more!

When the backstage phone rings and Fozzie answers it, he and Kermit are launched on a running gag that escalates with each call. But even though Fozzie loves surprises, all running jokes must come to an end…especially with Animal around! This episode features guest star Rita Moreno butting heads with Miss Piggy and performing “Fever” with Animal on drums; Marvin Suggs & His Muppaphone performing “Lady of Spain,” plus sketches, spots and lunacy galore!

Kermit reluctantly hires Scooter, a kid who shows up eager to work as a gofer…and whose uncle, J. P. Grosse, happens to own the Muppet Theatre. Scooter offers to “go fer” coffee, sandwiches, or anything else people need. But when he gives Fozzie a joke for his act that the others find hilarious, Fozzie decides Scooter may be useful after all. Plus, enjoy more inspired silliness, such as Muppet News Flash: Interviewing Billy Lee Boomer; a Talk Spot in which guest star Jim Nabors literally blows Kermit away with his singing; and Fozzie one-upping Statler and Waldorf!
