When Bonner witnesses a sheriff kill a suspected Mexican horse thief in cold blood, he tracks down the thief's accomplice and discovers troubling details about the sheriff's activities.

A teenage girl fancies a hotheaded young man suspected of robbery; the girl's father asks Bonner to help with the situation, either by turning the youth into a well-behaved boy, or convincing the daughter to give up on him.

A woman tries to hold up Bonner on the road but ends up saving his life.

When Bonner heads to a town with evidence to clear a man sentenced to death for murder, he arrives too late to save him; he decides to find the real killer despite the townsfolk's insistence that he leave.
