The Worst Witch

Mildred's back, on flying form after saving Cackles last term - and feeling like she finally belongs. The only problem is mum, Julie. Mildred feels Julie was cheated out of her own chance to be a witch. When Miss Cackle refuses Mildred's request to make her mum magical (it's strictly forbidden), angry Mildred enters the Great Wizard's broomstick flying contest.

Reactions to Cackles' first non-magical teacher are mixed… Miss Hardbroom is outraged by Julie's arrival - and Ethel's not too happy either. She makes Julie's first day as tough as possible, using Julie's lack of magical knowledge to humiliate her with a series of magic pranks.

Julie has no idea how to control her amazing new magical powers but Mildred's determined to teach her how; she won't let her mum be humiliated anymore. Several close shaves later, Mildred's fearful Julie's going to blow their secret and they'll both be thrown out of Cackles… she's made a terrible mistake.

When unhappy Ethel turns into a swamp troll after casting one too many spells in anger, Cackles is in uproar and she's banished to the forest by Miss Hardbroom. In contrast, Julie's now loving her magical powers and sets about using them to design new costumes for the Chanting Contest.

Enid is bitterly disappointed when her parents let her down again - she won't be going to 'Spellbound' with them after all. But Maud's got problems too. Her cat, Midnight, is losing his magic and fading away. Maud fears she may lose him altogether and is horrified when she learns it may all be because her own powers are corrupted. Enid vows to help them.

A new Maglet game craze is sweeping the academy - and everyone is hooked. Soon the girls are fighting over the Loot Box prizes, while their magic begins to disappear... followed by the girls themselves. In the midst of all this, lost and lonely Sybil, fretting about her up coming birthday, casts a foresight spell to see what the future holds.
