S1, E4: In this episode, Janny investigates whether Dutch culinary practices have changed over the years with the introduction of packages, sachets, and boxed meals. Two Rotterdam students cook packaged Pad Thai for Jenny and share with her their keenness for packaged foods. Janny talks with taste professor Peter Klosse, who explains what ingredients can be found in some packaged foods. Janny and Peter prepare a small dish made with fresh ingredients that is time-efficient and easily prepared, eliminating the need for packaged foods. In the couscous bar, Nadia, Samira and their mother prepare couscous in two ways: the traditional and from a package. (Spoiler: the packaged version doesn't taste the same as the traditional). And to conclude, Janny visits a family that uses freshly prepared boxes every week, a new and modern form of “packages and sachets.”
