Upon learning that one of his patients is being abused by her husband, a neuropsychiatrist takes matters into his own hands and enlists help from D, a dangerous furniture restorer.

Chance and his daughter find themselves the target of threats made by Jaclyn's husband. Unsettled by D's violent behaviour, Chance resolves to aid Jaclyn through more predictable and legitimate channels.

Chance is both relieved and regretful after regaining his senses. Jaclyn continues her therapy, while her husband makes it known to Chance that his threatening behaviour is far from over.

Chance grows more obsessive in his desire to help Jaclyn. After agreeing to serve as D's wheelman, he must then stop D from murdering Blackstone.

Chance seeks to explain his recent behaviour by recourse to medical reasoning. Chance and D ramp up their surveillance, and Blackstone administers a brutal beating.

As he awaits the consequences from the last mission, Chance's concerns over his family's safety grow, and he begins to question the truth while spending a night with Jaclyn.
