Neglected

Very few situations can surprise the staff at the police precinct. If you ask, they'll tell you they've seen it all. Until, that is, THE KID (17) comes in drenched in blood and politely asks to speak with DETECTIVE SHAW (early 40s); he has a murder to report. Suddenly everything has changed. Recently divorced, Detective Shaw is trying to reconnect with his son AARON (14). He wasn't a neglectful dad, it's just that his wife did most of the parenting while he put his job first. It was easier to say no to family dinner than to the wife of a murder victim. So when he finally has a day off, he's going to enjoy it. Go watch his son's basketball game like a normal dad. But when the precinct calls, his plans go out the window.
