Crime writer Alan Conway is finishing his next bestseller. Editor Susan rejoices, but when he suddenly dies, leaving behind a suicide note and an unfinished manuscript, she becomes suspicious.

Susan travels to Woodbridge to look for answers and the missing chapter; Alan uses his own house as a masterpiece for Pye Hall.

Susan runs into problems on the home front when her boyfriend Andreas tells him he wants to go home to Crete. At the same time, she tries to find Alan's killer, but the more she leads, the more surprises she finds.

Two funerals are planned. One for Sir Magnus Pye, the other for Alan Conway; Andreas pressures Susan to move to Crete.

Susan is still trying to figure out the final chapter, but will also have to investigate the new clue in the case. It does not bode well for her privacy.

Susan meets with Alan's ex-partner and learns about the relationship between Alan and Frank; Algemon discovers that Leonard and Samantha have a secret.
