Unsatisfied with the troubadour lifestyle, Max dreams of becoming a knight; after a run-in with a thief, Max and Uncle Budrick travel to Byjovia, Budrick's hometown.

Uncle Budrick is held captive as King Gastley's jester in the castle's dungeon. Max sets out to rescue him, accompanied by her friends Simon, Millie, Kevyn and the world-renowned wizard Mumblin.

Things take a turn when Max and the Midknights attempt to break into the castle to save Uncle Budrick; meanwhile, Uncle Budrick entertains King Gastley like his life depends on it.

Chaos ensues as Max and the Midknights try to break Uncle Budrick out of the castle before he is beheaded; Kevyn reveals that King Conrad is alive.

A prophecy nudges Max and the Midknights toward a new, mystical adventure outside Byjovia. However, they cannot proceed unless they find a way past Gastley and a tentacled creature.

The prophecy gives Max a sense of assurance about the outcome of her new quest. However, this is short-lived as a hungry chef and a pair of trolls throw a wrench in her plans.
