Shopkeeper Albert Arkwright has one main focus: to make as much money as he can while spending as little as possible. When not focused on his shop, Arkwright woos the nurse across the street.

Arkwright leaves his shop for a few hours to attend the funeral of a friend, whose funeral was the same as his life: thrifty.

Arkwright takes action when his corner shop is broken into and employs a large dog to guard his property. Unfortunately, the unruly creature is more successful at keeping customers at bay than frightening any burglars who may be about.

Arkwright's idea to involve a public demonstration for the marketing of a product has him tackling shoplifters.
