This episode sees Reese given the social security number of Assistant District Attorney Diane Hanson who is working on a major murder/drugs case. He discovers that a group of corrupt cops are standing in the way of justice and he forcibly persuades one of them to provide some telling information.

The Machine delivers the social security number of a girl named Teresa who has been presumed dead since her father murdered his family and committed suicide two years ago. Could the Machine have made a mistake? Finch insists not, charging Reese with the unenviable job of saving the life of a ghost.

The Machine alerts Finch and Reese to a seemingly innocent former Marine, who turns out to belong to a gang of ex-military bank-robbers. Reese must infiltrate the gang, taking part in their heist. Meanwhile, Detective Carter continues his quest to find out who Reese really is.

When the Machine produces the number of a promising physician, Reese undertakes 24-hour surveillance of the doctor to determine the threat against her. Meanwhile, Fusco runs foul of the Torero Cartel when they come looking for the drug money that his former partners stole from them.
