Ever since Joey and Ellie got married, Freddie has come over for dinner, without invitation. They want to spend the evening of their 3-month anniversary alone.

Joey tries to cure his hospitable wife, Ellie, of her irresistible desire to buy things she doesn't need from every pitchman with a hard-luck story.

Joey and Freddy have an argument over creative differences spurred by Joey's impromptu playing of a mandolin to end his show, which results in Joey firing Freddy as his manager and also ending their friendship.

Joey jokes about women in politics on his show, and Ellie, who has contemplated running for Assemblyman, decides to do so, demanding time on his show.

Mr Jillson wins an Eskimo dog in a contest, and then agrees to take Mrs Walters' cat for a week while she is in Miami Beach. They fight like cats and dogs.

Ellie misses Texas. When Joey can't leave to go with her, he and the gang put on a Western in the living room.
