Hard to Handle

Academy Award winner James Cagney stars as a con man and marathon dance promoter who gets conned himself into marrying in the comedy Hard to Handle. Fast-talking flim flam artist Myron C. "Lefty" Merrill (Cagney--Mister Rogers, Yankee Doodle Dandy) has yet to find a scam he won't run on any hapless sap he can find to fall for his ploys. But he's the sap who gets conned when his partner in a shady dance marathon splits with the reward, leaving him to face the winner with no cash. Now, the cheated dancer will let him off the hook -- if he agrees to marry her daughter.
