A young African American teenage girl living in Harlem excels in school, with help from her supportive guidance counselor she dreams of going to Yale. As her mother struggles to make ends meet and her brother and sister encounter issues of their own, she learns that hard work, optimism, and perseverance in the face of overwhelming adversity is the essence of what it is to be alive.
