A town is surrounded with walls over 50 meters high, built to protect humanity against Titans; Eren, a young boy, lives peacefully within the walls while yearning for the outside world; on the day Survey Corps returns, Eren sees something.

After the Titans break through the wall, the citizens of Shiganshina must run for their lives. Those that do make it to safety find a harsh life waiting for them, however.

Eren butts heads with Jean Kirschtein, a cadet who wants to be in the Military Police Regiment; Berholt and Reiner help Eren with his training.

Annie proves her skill in a sparring session; Eren and Mikasa rank among the top ten of their class, but Eren announces that he is joining the Scout Regiment.

Eren takes on the Colossal Titan as he destroys the wall's cannons; the scouts scramble to evacuate the Trost District before the titans invade.

Armin struggles to cope with the loss of his friends and allies following the attack; Mikasa, who was in another unit, takes on several Titans.
