Small-time crook Ronald "Budgie" Bird is released from prison, determined to get back to business; He plans to hijack a truck transporting cosmetics, but finds the cargo is something else entirely.

Charlie allows Budgie to use an apartment in the middle of Soho for six weeks; Hazel's mother makes some mysterious plans.

Budgie is on to something big, so he travels to Watford, where he visits his estranged wife, Jean; Budgie is convinced he is welcome there, but others don't exactly agree.

Budgie invites Charlie Endell to dinner at the Grandee Hotel in an unsuccessful attempt to persuade him to buy a film projector; when a rugby team checks in, he spots another opportunity.

Budgie finally gets some wealth, now he just needs to hold on to it; no one knows how he got it in the first place, but that doesn't stop Charlie from trying to get closer to him.

Budgie's new job in Charles' bookshop is proving to be profitable, but Hazel has a problem that brings him back to his old school and into a bit of trouble.
