The lives of the Howard family are changed forever when Ruby helps a drug-addicted Vietnam war deserter escape to Canada. Travis Hunter has a troubled past and his presence reignites tensions in the Howard family.

Chimes of Freedom
Ruby is questioned by police about the border incident and then released. She and the committee work to free the others. Travis’ relapse into drug use gets him kicked out of the Howard house. Ralph and Destiny are given a key by a mysterious stranger.

All Along the Watchtower
Ruby struggles to connect with her children who both seem unreachable to her. Travis helps a new deserter to cross the border but discovers he knows something of Travis' troubled past.
EPISODE 4
Eve of Destruction
When Ellen learns Travis is moving into the house, she packs a bag and leaves. Travis builds his connection to Ruby when he helps her look for Ellen. Travis finally learns what drove the Howard family out of the U.S. The Committee gathers to watch the results of the California Primary and its shocking aftermath.

For What It's Worth
In the aftermath of the RFK assassination, a young couple arrive at the church and Ruby turns to Ellen for help. Hurt and feeling isolated from Ted, Ruby makes a phone call to someone from her past. Travis’ loyalty is tested when police surround the church where the deserter has sought refuge.

White Rabbit
Travis’ sudden and violent arrest leads to an unexpected reunion. Ruby begins to suspect the F.B.I. may have followed her to Canada. Ralph lies to his parents and leaves town.
