19-year-old Renee Bach embarks on a mission trip to Jinja, Uganda, to start a charity called Serving His Children to address childhood malnutrition, earning the support of local officials and foreign donors. But when an American volunteer nurse makes a disturbing discovery, she accuses Renee of dangerously treating the children herself, despite having no medical training.

Despite the volunteer nurse making a formal complaint to the board, Serving His Children expands with more staff and donations than ever. But as rumors that Renee is continuing to practice medicine persist, a former missionary joins forces with a Ugandan activist to ensure that the dangers of Renee’s white saviorism are exposed.

A Ugandan human rights attorney files a lawsuit against Renee on behalf of two bereaved mothers. While Renee fights against the lawsuit’s accusations, the social media movement against her escalates, forcing her to reckon with her choices.
